Heavy rains
greeted 25 teams on the morning of the 5th for our Team Trail
tournament on Kerr Lake. The weather did not stop the fish from chewing all day
long as 24 of the 25 teams weighed in a limit and caught 30-50 bass each. We
can only imagine with super excitement at how great this lake is going to fish
in 2-3 years when all these 1.75-2.25 pound fish grow up. Everyone had a great
time as the fishing was fantastic. It took 19.26 pounds caught by the
father/son team of Randy and Travis Young from United Bassmasters. They also
had the 2nd Big Bass of 4.49 pounds and took home a total of $1,700
– $1550 for 1st and $150 for that 2nd big fish -WOW!!!
The next 4 top spots were all in the 16 pound range. Dave Robison and his
partner Mike Collins from Fayetteville Bassmasters took 2nd place
with 16.81 pounds anchored by a 4.25 pound lunker. They took home $775 for
their efforts. 3rd place was the team from OutLaw Bassers, Robert Barrett
and Grey Pardue with their catch of 16.51 pounds good for $460. The squeeker
today was for that last 4th place check between the Carolinian
Bassmaster team of Keith Coffman and Larry Halsey and the Furious Hawg
Snatchers team of Tony Monaco and Steve Garner. In the end Keith Coffman’s 1st
big fish put their team over the top by just .02 pounds- Whew! Congratulations
to Keith Coffman and Larry Halseys 4th place finish along with the 1st
big fish which netted them $660- $310 for 4th and $350 for their 5.15
pound Lunker. Tony Monaco and Steve Garner took home 5th place and
gained 196 team points for their efforts in making the State Team at the end of
the year.
We had over $700
in raffle prizes awarded, $100 in BPS gift cards, Quantum Rod Reel combos and
KVD Tour Edition Rods, (3) HUK Shirts, $25 cash for our smallest fish-
Congratulations to Neil Smith and his partner Michael Milan for that whopper
lol. We still don’t know who actually caught the .28 pounder but at least they
had supper money. In all over $5,000 in cash, prizes and merchandise was given
out this Sunday tour fishermen. We hope to see the continued growth as we
prepare for our next tournament on the Trent/Neuse. Give us a look at
ncbass.org and register your team to come out and enjoy the benefits and
camaraderie that The North Carolina Bass Federation is providing to its
members.
The NCTBF-SAF
Youth Champions of River and Reed Ennis will be fishing this August on the
Arkansas River for the Jr. World Championship. Let’s get behind our youth team
and give them our support. We are looking for any donations to the youth team
to help offset the $5,000 expense this trip will be. All donations are tax
deductible and our youth will really appreciate the support. You can see both
River and Reed on their YouTube videos promoting our states youth teams. Give
them a like and share when you gets the opportunity. Thank you all and let’s go
fishing!!!
